Good start from Rovers youngster's REPORT BY JOSH HURST

Paulton made the short trip to Cutters Friday FC on Thursday 18th July.

The visitors had a great start with Jake Curtis doing well down the right and delivering a fine cross into the box for the on coming Ben Crossman to slot the Ball home, unfortunately the Cutters defender tried to intervene and ended up putting the ball into the back of the net.

Paulton dominated the early parts of the game and kept possession well, however they couldn’t seem to break down the home teams defence, on the 30 minute mark, Blaine Lawrence latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty box and slotted the ball into the net to double the lead.

With a lot of new players in the squad, Paulton made 5 substitutions.

The home team started to get more control of the ball and were looking threatening on the counter, the Cutters Striker finished well after latching onto a bouncing through ball and chipping the ball over the oncoming Paulton keeper to make the score 2-1.

Just before the break, Blaine was unlucky not to score a second, hitting the crossbar with a fantastic volleyed effort from 25 yards out. The follow up effort from Joe Paradise also bounced of the bar and the home side managed to clear the ball away.

After halftime the game became more open and fast paced, both teams playing well, however not being able to create any clear cut chances.

It was Tom Parfitt who finally found the breakthrough, scoring from outside the box after some fantastic build up play from the Paulton making the score 3-1.

This seemed to give the home team a burst of energy and they started to comeback into the game, pressing high up the field and regaining possession in some threatening areas.

It wasn’t long until their efforts paid off and the frontman finished very well into the bottom corner after finding himself one on one with the keeper. 3-2.

Both sides came close to scoring again before the full time whistle.

Cutters Friday again winning the ball high up the field and some emergency defending needed to stop them from equalising and a long-range effort from Alfie Williams was just going the wrong side of the post.

A great game of football on a pleasant sunny evening.
