Winscombe defeat Rovers

After last Thursday’s defeat in the FA Cup, the lads were hoping to bounce back to winning ways, however found themselves 1-0 down after 10 minutes, some questionable defending by Paulton left the opposition through on goal and despite a fine save from Sean Salter the ball fell straight into the path of an oncoming Winscombe forward who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The home team were attacking well and looked the better side, some great defending from Harvey Lawrence being the only thing that denied them from increasing their lead.

However the pressure became too much for Paulton and after failing to clear the ball from a corner, the opposition number 9 picked up the ball on the edge of the box and finished well to make it 2-0.

After the half-time break, Paulton came back out with a better intensity to their game and it took just 28 seconds for Jake Curtis to find the back of the net with a fantastic finish from just outside the box.

Paulton continued to put pressure on the Winscombe back 3 and were soon rewarded with another goal, this time, Mason Harrison switching the ball from RB to LW with a fantastic diagonal ball that landed in front of Ali Sen, Ali didn’t hesitate and smashed the ball into the back of the net with his first touch to put the scores level.

This seemed to drive the home side on as they then started to re-apply the pressure and get numbers forward. The game became very open with both teams creating chances to take the lead, however it was Winscombe who were next to find the breakthrough as the right winger found himself behind the Paulton defence with plenty of time to carry the ball forwards and slot the ball into the back of the net.

With Paulton now desperate to get a goal and get back into the game, changes were made in the hope they could pinch a result from the game.

Unfortunately, whilst Paulton were trying to get numbers forward and find the equaliser, the home side then won possession of the ball and counter attacked quickly.
Winscombe increased their lead to 4-2 with a goal that showed great desire and determination to get forward and be first to the ball as the Right Winger managed to get his second of the game as he cut across the defence and put the ball into the back of the net from a well delivered cross.

Despite Paulton demonstrating some good footballs at times, it was a poor performance from the Paulton team who were beaten by a side who showed more desire & determination across the pitch in all aspects.

Winscombe come away the deserved winners on the night.
