Roverws bounce back Report by Tony Walsh

Paulton pulled off a win at Yate Town their third success on the road and the first at Lodge Road for many a year.

Yate were awarded a hotly dispute penalty in the first minute after ex Rover Ricky Hulbert tumbled in the box.

Lewis Haldane's spot kick was superbly save low to his left by Kyle Phillips.

Haldane made amends after 15 minutes tucking the ball home after Phillips had parried away Ross Staley's shot.

Paulton were pressing an under pressure home defence with James Biling and Nick McCootie combining well and Brandon Barnes causing problems raiding down the left.

Barnes hand a hand in Rovers equaliser on thirty three minutes when his cross caused problems for Yate's defence and Marcus Mapstone hammered the ball home. Town defenders had tried to clear the ball which the referee's assistant signalled had already crossed the line.

Seven minutes later Paulton went ahead. Barnes was fouled thirty yards out and his free kick was charged down by James Hamer using his hand a yard outside the penalty area. Barnes stepped up to hit a cracking free kick giving home keeper Martin Horwell no chance.

Two minutes before the break Hamer played a neat ball behind Rovers defence which Haldane collected pick his spot to level the scores at 2-2.

If the first half had his early thrills the second opened up in similar vein. McCootie made a powerful run down the right , hit a low pass to Billing who was brought down in the box. Horwell read Barnes penalty attempt to block his goal bound effort.

Paulton had their best period of dominance with Dan Cleverley, Barnes, Billing and McCotie have strikes on the 'Bluebell's' goal.

Hulbert should have done better when he broke through the defence and tried to chip the Paulton keeper, but Phillips was not out foxed and save well.

Rovers took the lead in the seventieth minute. Sub Dean Evans playing right back hit a long deep ball to Barnes who just got to the ball before Horwell to rush passed him and tap the ball in to an empty net.

Josh Klein-Davies came on for McCootie and was causing problems for Yate resulting in Tom Seery getting a yellow card.

As Town sought a point Hulbert played a back heel flick into the path of Mike Bryant, but the Yate skiiper hammered the ball over the ball.

With the game moving to full time it was Paulton who looked the more likely to add to their total.

For Rovers it was a filup after Saturday's loss and a win which keeps them very much in the promotion hunt.

Paulton Rovers - Kyle Phillips, Dan Bowman, Ollie Price, Marcus Mapstone (sub Dean Evans 52 mins) , Scott Brice, Brandon Barnes, Mike Perrott , Ben Lacey, Dan Cleverley, James Billing, Nick McCootie (Josh Klein-Davies 65).
