STREET 1 v 0 PAULTON ROVERS

Paulton went out of the FA Cup to Toolstation Western Premier League Streetat the first hurdle despite having the majority of play and chances.

In what was a lacklustre performance from both sides on a hard bobbley pitch, Rovers strikers Josh Klein-Davies and James Billing both tested home keeper Nathan Whatley.

'The Cobbler's' midfielder Jack Malone had his shot bloked by Scott Brice.

In the twenty four minute Paulton should have gone ahead when Brandon Barnes won the tackle on the half way line laid the ball to Klein-Davies who found Dan Cleverley, but his shot was cleared for a corner.

Three minutes later Klein-davies crossed and Billing headed goalwards only to bring a fingertip save from Whatley.

Whatley was kept busy yet Rovers did not seem to fully penetrate. By contrast Rovers keeper Lewis Pierre was rarely troubled by a Street attack led by ex Frome striker Mark Salter.

Paulton kept being thwarted by man of the match Whatley who prevented Klein-Davies (JKD) and Barnes from scoring.

On the hour 18 year old Joe Vyner came on for JKD and immediately had a golden opportunity to open his account after shaking offf his marker he hit his shot too high.

Vyner appeared to be bundle over on seventy three minutes with the referee denying Paulton what looked like a good penalty shout.

Two minutes later Malone attacking from ther right eluding Dean Evans tackle but Marcus Mapstone brought him down for a penalty which Salter converted dispite Pierre getting a hand as the ball entered the net.

Rovers had numerous half chances with Billing out jumping Whatley to head goalward only to see the ball cleared and Vyner linked with Mike Perrott but his drive went wide.

Tuesday league match at Bridgwater will be rearranged as 'Bridgey' drew 1-0 at Taunton and the replay will be that night.
