Rovers out of Red Insure Cup

Red Insure Southern League Cup 2nd Round

Paulton bowed out of the Red Insure Southern League cup to local rivals Yate Town managed by ex Rovers stalwart Rob Cousins.

Both sides tried to play football in the swirling wind and each domiating period in the first half.

Jake Jackson opening the scoring for the visitors on 26 minutes cutting in from the left to hit a curling curving wind assisted shot over Paulton keeper kyle Phillips into the net.

Yate had several chances to increase the lead but Phillips thawarted Brad Abrahams and ex Paulton and Frome striker Ricky Hulbert.

Rovers opened up well in the second half and Josh Klein-Davies and Ben Lacey played a neat one two before Joe Chandler stopped the attack.

In the fifty first minute a long ball from ex Paulton youth player Martin Lenihan was chased down by Jackson putting pressure Ollie Price who lost his balance allowing Jackson to slot home number two.

Ten minutes later Rovers were back in the game when Brandon Barnes left footed in swinging corner from the right caused confusion and yate centre back Joe Chandler headed towards his own goal and under pressure from Ollie Price the ball cross the line to make it 2-1 to Yate.

Yate had several chances to increase their lead and rovers to level.

They thought they had with three minutes left. Another Barnes corner saw visiting keeper Martin Horsell lose the ball and Mike Perrott drove the ball into the net only for the referee to rule out a goal for a mysterios foul on the Yate stopper.
