PAULTON ROVERS 3 v 2 FROME TOWN

Paulton overcame old rivals Frome Town to progress to the 3rd round of the Red Insure Cup.

A great advert for non league football. A game played fairly, at high tempo, no bad tackles and superbly refereed by Sam Allison who graced both teams as a player in former years.

After a goal less even first half Paulton were soon on top and went ahead after 56 minutes when Elliott Gibbons cut in from the left found Jon Davies who shot past Frome keeper Darren Chitty with the aid of the post.

Frome leveled on 64 minutes when former Rovers players Kris Miller burst down the right and was fouled by Gibbons chasing back to concede a penalty which Miler duly dispatched.

A minute later Davies put Rovers in front again. Brandon Barnes crossed and Davies bicycled kicked overhead and into the net.

On 81 minutes Mike Bryant was fouled and Barnes hit the resultant free kick past Chitty to make it 3-1.

Frome pulled a goal with a minute left. Another former Rover, Josh Klein Davies hit a rasping shot which Kyle Phillips blocked but Lewis Haldane tapped home.

Rovers will now play at home to Truro City in the 3rd round to be played on 6 January 2015.
