A minutes silence was observed before the match, in memory of of former manager and long time supporter Terry Gillard who sadly passed away this week
Early Paulton pressure was under minded as Welsh Division One side Ton Pentre took a fifth minute lead as Leon Jacka struck a firm free kick past Kieran Hodges.
Rovers had chances from Joe White, Omar Simpson and Dale Evans who drove shot over the bar.
Simpson and White nearly put in left back Josh Cann only to be foiled by visiting keeper Ryan Griffiths.
On 20 minutes, again against the run of play, Huw Bowtell beat the offside trap, squared for Adam Lewis to score despite Hodges getting a hand to the ball.
Paulton dominated the second half and reduced the arrears on 48 minutes as Hillard's left wing corner fell to Joe Guest who turn the ball home.
Simpson and James Byrne fired over and Guest shot wide as Griffith's was kept busy.
Paulton looked to have a good shout for a penalty as Guest was taken out with appeals waved aside.
Byrne laid off for Simpson who took an extra pace before his shot was saved by Griffiths.
Sub Dave Sims brought two saves from Ton Pentre's stopper and he looked to have levelled only for Griffiths to bring yet another save in a man of the match performance.
