Rovers edge past derby rivals Frome

(Aside) Match sponsor John Rossiter presents the Sainsbury's Supermarket of Midsomer Norton man of the match award to Paulton centre half Jordy Nkunga.

Scott Wilson's last minute goal in a cracking local derby saw Paulton Rovers overcome ten-man Frome Town

Paulton who without captain Scott Brice and Jordan Walker through suspension and Danny Wring through injury, created the better chances throughout, but could not take advantage of Jack Vallis's thirtieth minute red card for a stamp on Pat Keary.

It looked as though Rovers' ample possession would come to nothing as Frome dug deep before Wilson broke into the box and coolly beat Darren Chitty at the death.

The home side were handed the first opportunity within seconds when Mark Cooper's rash challenge gave away a free-kick.

In-demand winger Jon Davies sent his set-piece to the back post, but Keary's close-range volley was charged down and blocked quickly.

While Paulton showed quicker feet and movement in the opening exchanges, Frome were more physical in the final third and created their first shot when Ollie Taylor forced his way in from the left and saw a powerful shot thud off a defender and ricochet behind.

Davies, who has caught the eye of numerous Football League sides, looked a class above throughout the first half, at one point ghosting skilfully away from two Frome defenders.

His dead-ball delivery was also causing problems, one set-piece causing havoc, finding its way to Ashley Williams via Shayne Anson's knock-back, but the final shot was cleared off the line.

Taylor was proving Frome's most potent threat, pulling a snapshot wide after holding off two defenders before flashing Lewis Haldane's flick on across goal.

The talking point of the first half came on the half-hour when Frome centre-back Vallis appeared to stamp on Keary.

Tempers threatened to fray, but Vallis was pulled away and shown a red card by the referee before a melee could emerge.

Indeed, Frome almost dug themselves deeper into trouble three minutes later when a loose touch from Mark Cooper handed possession to Davies.

The Paulton playmaker turned Cooper inside out and crossed for Mitchell Page, whose header was deflected for a corner. Keary's own header from the resulting flag-kick dribbled wide.

Paulton's offence continued to look the more potent, and carved out the next opportunity when a Page flick on was ballooned over the bar by Wilson.

The second half began as the first ended, as Frome stopper Chitty had to be alert to tip Liam Monelle's fierce drive over the bar.

Sam Teale also passed up a golden opportunity, hitting a central, 20-yard free-kick over after Frome were adjudged to have handballed.

The best chance of the game fell to Monelle when Davies got up to play him in with a quick free-kick, but the Bristol City loanee failed to hit the target.

Frome rarely threatened and dealt in half-chances, one such effort falling to Haldane, who thundered an effort high into the stand while, at the other end, Davies was played in behind but sent his low drive inches wide of Chitty's far post.

The second half appeared to be limping to a close as the game became a scrappy affair until Wilson nipped in to clinch the points in stoppage time.
