Paulton's best performance of the season gave new manager Tony Ricketts plenty of hope as he seeks to turn round his club's season after the long trip to Histon.
Right back Steve Williams's cross was brought down by centre forward Tom Knighton whose shot on the turn saw a fine save by Histon keeper Brendan Brown.
Aaron Brown hit a long ball across field to Leon Jeanne who laid the ball to Jordan Ricketts only for him to shoot over.
The Stutes slowly got into te game and Jordan Nicholson was twice denied by visiting keeper Ben John.
On thirty four minutes John made a fine save from a free kick taken by Ryan Auger, but Histon took the lead three minutes later against the run of play.
Auger split the Rovers defence for right back Luke Trotman to race on a slip the ball into the net.
With his next move Auger hit a cracking shot which again brought a great save from the Paulton stopper.
Rovers started the second period well and Dave O'Hare found by a Darren Mullings pass, played a lovely one two with Knighton then Brown's corner was headed wide by Craig Allan.
Histon striker Josh Oyinsan broke through and hit the post.
A lovely move involving a cross by Brown was met firmly by Jeanne and well held by the Histon keeper.
O'Hare thundered a low shot narrowly passed the post then Nicholson and Auger tested John.
Sub Sol Wheatley making his Rovers debut looked lively and should have scored outpacing the defence running from the half way line only for the ball to drift away.
Ricketts brought a great savw from Brown then Allan had a header loop agonisingly over the bar.
In injury time Paulton grabbed a well deserved equaliser as Kyle Tooze played the ball back to Williams whose cross was firmly headed home by Mullings to the delight of the Somerset supporters.
