Rovers hit five to start New Year

Paulton made a flying start at Bridgwarer when Jordan Ricketts dribbled through the home defence to turn the ball into the net after only 3 minutes.

They should have added to the total several times as Jake Mawford and Kailan Gould tested Liam Kingston in the home goal.

It was 2-0 on 32 minutes as a long ball from skipper Josh Ford was held up by Gould who slipped the ball to Reeko Best to hammer home from six yards out.

Rovers started the second half on fire as Best twice had chances then Matt Long, returning at left back after a two months injury lay off, found Mawford to then lay the ball to Gould but was thwarted by the legs of Kingston.

This led to series of corners, Joe Chandler's header was turned around the post by Kingston and from Mawford's corner Ford headed home for 3-0.

Gould, Best and Elliott Gibbons all went narrowly wide. Bridgey first chance came on the hour as Harry Horton headed over the bar from close range when it seemed easier to score.

Paulton made it 4-0 on 67 minutes, Mawford and Gibbons both looked odds on to score after a corner but Ford grabbed his second as he made sure from close range.

The scoring was completed on 77 minutes as the hard working James Byrne won the ball in midfield, split the home defence to find Mawford who threaded the ball to Gould to hit a beautiful low curving shot to make it 5-0.

A good team performance prior to Saturday's home game against runaway league leaders Hereford who promise to bring around 500 supporters to Winterfield Road, after all they had nearly 4500 when they won 2-1 at home to Evesham on Monday.
