Rovers go down to Biddy

Yet again, Paulton should have at least a point against old adversaries Bideford in a game affected by a swirling strong wind.

Rovers had to make a last minute change when experienced midfielder Dale Evans aggravated a hamstring, dropping to the bench with youngster Sam Hedges coming in at centre half and Mitch Tippins moving into midfield.

Early errors nearly allowed Biddy's veteran striker Kevin Squire firing wide then Paulton goalie George Burton held a sharp free kick by Dan Western.

Good link up by Liam Monelle and Omar Simpson resulted in a Rovers right wing corner taken by Josh Cann and headed wide by Joe Hillard.

Burton was alert to save from James Header point blank header and then the young stopper saved Squire' s after he was set up by the lively Josh Key.

Monelle had a fierce volley deflected for a corner and minutes later turned, to fire a shot held by home keeper Steve Oliver.

On 38 minutes Burton made a sound save from Will Hancox and laid the ball down the left to Kyle Knott, his ball saw a one two between Cann and Monelle who was tripped by former Paulton player Craig Allen.

From 25 yards out, a superb low free kick from Tippins beating Oliver found the back of the net to give Rovers a half time lead.

On resumption, Bideford pressed the visiting defence. On 50 minutes Bideford levelled as Matt Bye's deep free kick was caught in the wind and Allen bundled the ball home at the far post.

Five minutes later Squires put his side ahead, receiving the ball wide on the right of the goal line and someone squeezed the ball into the net.

A flurry of substitutions saw Josh Morgan Williams on for Cann and another teenager - Jordan Lovibond on for Jack Ball. Lovibond's first act was to break forward and test Oliver.

Monelle shot over the bar and Biddy's Ben Seymour, who scored a hat trick in the reverse fixture at Winterfield Road, rounded a largely ineffective game by shooting wide when he looked to be in a good position.

Burton rounded off a man of the match performance by again denying Squire, turning over a shot by Key and saving another point blank header this time from Allen.

The referee stopped the game flowing by penalising innocuous clashes, with Burton blocking Squire's shot which was ruled offside and Lovibond firing wide.

Paulton are at North Leigh on Tuesday and again away at Bishops Cleeve on Thursday (19/04) KO 7-45pm then home Saturday to Yate Town KO 3-00 pm and next Tuesday travel to Wimborne Town.

The list is up in the club for the trip to North Leigh with the coach leaving at 4-00 p.m.

Other news Didcot Town have announced the game against Paulton on 28 April which is the final league game of the season will be pay what you like on the turnstiles.
