Rovers back in ther play off zone

(Above) Match ball sponsor Malcolm Powney presents Rovers man of the match Nick McCottie with his award.

Paulton got the right result against a battling Godalming Town side and move back into play odff contention ahead of Saturday's titanic local derby at home to Bridgwater Town.

After a bright opening spell of pressure from Rovers it was the visitors that opened the scoring after seven minutes George Bowerman broke dow the right and his centre cum shot dipped over kyle Phillips and into the net.

Paulton responded well and Luke Ballinger's cross from the left was headed wide by Josh Jeffries when the Rovers stalwart looked odds on to score.

'The G's' keeper Zaki Oualah was kept busy and fisted out a cross by left back Sam Teale then a shot from right back Stuart Tovey.

Jeffries had received a knock and was replaced by Saul Wiliams who linked well with Nick McCottie the latter causing the Godalming defence all sorts of problems.

Paulton equalised on thirty seven minutes after he was fouled Ballinger took the resultant free kick which he floated into the penalty area. Mike Perrott controled and knocked the ball in to feet of McCootie to slip the ball past Oualah.

Four minutes later and Rovers went ahead. Teale played a lovely ball down the left flank to Ballinger who sped goalward past Town's captain Gavin Miller only to be chopped down. McCottie thumped home the spot kick.

Godalming tried hard to get back in the game and after Rovers initial pressue in the second half when Williams had a glorious chance to score, the visitors had spells when the were camped in Paulton's half.

Phillips was twice called upon to stem the danger and in the eventy seventh minute, the home keeper pulledoff a tremendous save from substitute Bouwe Bosma and then immediately afterwards blocking Bowerman from adding to his tally.

Six minutes from time Paulton man of the match fluffed a chance to get his hat trick when he miss hit his shot.

Just in to time added on Josh Klein-Davies found McCottie who laid the ball to captain Dan Cleverley his drive beat Oualah but hit the foot of the post and bounced clear.

Paulton are undoubtly going through a sticky patch and not firing on all cylinder, but gaining three points at this stage of the season is vital to keep in the hunt. Saturday against 'Bridgey' they must play better.
