New Head of Coaching

We are pleased to announce that Jamie Harrison has joined Paulton Rovers Development Centre as Head of Coaching.

Jamie is vastly experienced, having recently been Academy Manager at Yeovil Town FC and previously worked for Southampton and Bristol Rovers.

His role will be to help develop the coaches to provide further opportunities for the players to work hard, learn, have fun and develop a lifelong love of football. Jamie has the UEFA A Licence and FA Advanced Youth Award and he will share his knowledge of the professional game and player development with all age groups at the centre.

He is an excellent addition to the already fantastic coaching team and together we will ensure we continue to create a positive learning environment for our players and also provide a realistic pathway for every player who attends Paulton Rovers Development Centre.

Paulton Rover Development Centre Chairman Josh Hurst had this to say-

“It is great to have a coach of Jamie’s calibre coming in to work with us at Paulton. Jamie’s knowledge and experiences from coaching and managing within professionals academies will be valuable to everyone at the Centre, further enhancing the standard of coaching available and the opportunities we can provide for our local players.

I am really looking forward to working with Jamie and we will do everything possible to create a positive experience in football for our young players, providing the best opportunities to develop and progress to their full potential within the game.

Since becoming Chairman in June 2018, the centre has grown remarkably and we have seen vast improvements across all age groups. Back in June, we had just 3 age groups training weekly. We are now providing weekly football for 11 age groups & 192 local players; 7 of these age groups are playing weekly fixtures in the elusive Junior Premier League.

We have a large number of highly qualified coaches and most importantly great people who are out on the pitch weekly, creating a really great learning environment for every player; children can enjoy training and still learn lots about the beautiful game. Jamie will work alongside all of these coaches out on the pitch and behind the scenes helping us to further create the best environment we can for our players.”

Jamie Harrison had this to say upon joining-

“I am really excited to get started at Paulton Rovers Development Centre. My sons come to the centre and as a parent I have been impressed with the setup so when Josh asked whether I would be interested in getting involved it was an easy decision and I jumped at the chance. I have observed every age group in training and on matchdays and there is some fantastic work being done: outstanding coaches working with talented footballers, providing a really positive learning environment.

My role with Josh is to look at ways of how we can support the coaches so they can continue to do the best coaching job possible and develop the players further. An example of this will be keeping the player to coach ratio low. I am also looking forward to delivering coaching sessions with different age groups each week myself and working with each player to become the best they can be.

I am eager to get involved and create a centre that will massively benefit the local community where I live. We want to build strong relationships with all the local grass roots clubs. The great thing about Paulton DC is that a youngster can play for their grass roots club and Paulton DC at the same time, affording each player a wider range of experiences. Together, we can provide access to top coaching for all players in the area.

Our job as coaches is to find the right challenge for each individual that comes to Paulton Rovers so they can grow and develop as a person and a player and build their confidence and love of the game.

I am relishing the opportunity to make a difference in the community and help develop local footballers.
We will continue to produce players for Paulton Rovers first team, following in the footsteps of Mason Harrison and Ali Sen. Over the past few years a number of players have had opportunities with the first team such as Lewis Bond-Kendall, Luke Seviour, Blaine Lawrence, Sean Salter and Sam Cary. I am also looking forward to the family fun days that we can organise for all our young players to go and watch the first team at Winterfield Road. We have one coming up on Saturday for our players and families, where we will cheer on the team and the players that have progressed through our centre into the senior ranks and give our young ones the chance to get on the pitch at half time.

We will also identify and progress players on to Professional clubs. I know the standard of the players signed at Cat 1, Cat 2 and Cat 3 Academies and what it takes for a player to earn and be successful in a trial. Through my large number of Academy contacts, that I have built up over the years, I will recommend and pass on any player that I think is ready for the next level.

We are very young as a centre so I am excited about the progress we will make over the coming weeks, months and years. We will continue to strengthen and our sides will become more competitive in the Junior Premier League.

And most importantly we will play a huge role in getting kids active and loving football and all the positive benefits for boys and girls that comes with participating in a team sport.

As you can tell, I am very passionate about Paulton Rovers Development Centre and I can't wait to start working with the players and coaches.”
