Rovers make it lucky seven

Paulton made it seven wins on the trot as they over came a determined Odd Down side in the 1st round of the Somerset Premier Cup. Six changes from Saturday's squad saw manager John Rendell rotate his squad.

Keeper Joe Perry was called to make an early save from the Downers striker Daryl Charman before Rovers went ahead as Nuno Felix sent Ali Sen down the left wing to the by line and his cross was turned home by his fellow youth team graduate Mason Harrison.

Paulton were in charge as Ed Butcher brought a save from home keeper George Dorrington. Jake Sloggett's cross was headed wide by a well placed Butcher.

In the fortieth minute Butcher laid the ball back to Sloggett who struck a fine low shot past Dorrington.

The second half was barely two minutes old as Butcher ran goal wards being tackled by central defender Darius Davey and the ball fell to Harrison who struck a curling low drive from 20 yards out to make it 3-0.

On 63 minutes the hosts pulled a goal back as former Paulton player Omar Simpson broke on thee right and found Charman who turned a shot passed Perry.

Rovers were awarded a penalty after 76 minutes as sub Dave Sims-Burgess was tripped by another former Paulton player Josh Cann. Sims-Burgess converted the spot kick to make it 4-1.

With five minutes left Cann then Anthony Contadi set up Charman to reduce the arrears. Two minutes later Jacob Bird broke through the Rovers defence to make it 4-3.

With their hackles up the Downers hoped to level , but it was Paulton that made its 5-3 as leading scorer Ben Bament, another sub, found Sims-Burgess to complete the scoring.
