Two good run outs REPORTS BY JOSH HURST

STREET U18's 7 v 2 PAULTON ROVERS U18's

The U18’s played their 3rd pre-season friendly last Saturday against another Premier Division side, Street FC.

With 7 lads unavailable playing for senior sides, it was a great opportunity to give some of the younger players an opportunity to get some valuable game-time.

The home team started the game well and looked dangerous attacking in the wide areas.

10 minutes in, Street found a breakthrough, a well taken goal from the Street No.9.

Street doubled their lead shortly after, Sean Salter making a fantastic save in the Paulton goal only for the ball to come loose and the attacking team being the first to react and smashing the ball into the net.

Shortly after, a great move from the home side was finished off well again by the No.9 to put the score at 3-0.

Just before the break, debutant Kian Kearn hit a first time volley right into the bottom corner from a fantastic cross coming from Reece Barry to keep Paulton in the game.

The second half started and Paulton came out fighting, pressing higher up the field and attacking well to create chances.

Kearn once again stepped up and found himself behind the Street defence and did well to slot the ball past the oncoming keeper to make it 3-2.

However this was the last of the glory for the visiting team as they started to tire and the home side capitalised on this, scoring 4 more goals in throughout the second half with some fantastic football being played.
There was a penalty decision waved away by the referee for Paulton, after Freddie Blacker, another debutant, did very well down the right and was tripped in the box.

On the day, the better side came away with the win. However, a great experience for some of the Paulton youngsters who showed some impressive individual performances against a very strong Street side.

We would like to wish Street all the best with the upcoming season.

WESTON SUPER MARE U18's 6 v 3 PAULTON ROVERS

Paulton travelled down to Weston last Thursday to face the Premier division side in a friendly fixture.

The home side started the game on the front foot and took the lead 5 minutes in with a fantastic diving header.

Weston continued to put the pressure on the Paulton defence and were dominating possession, moving the ball very well.

Weston looked the better side but found it very hard to create any clear cut chances with the Paulton defence doing well to keep out any danger.
However, Paulton did manage to equalise through a fantastic counter-attacking move that was finished off well by Jake Curtis.

It didn’t take long for the home side to go back in front though, after another great move was finished well, a great cross was this time met at the back post to slide the ball into the net.

Just before the halftime break, Paulton found another equaliser, this time a fine cross from Fred Gwyther being met by Blaine Lawrence who headed the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper to make the scores level at the break.

After the break, Paulton started to get more of a foot hold in the game and had a couple of chances to get in front. Jake Curtis again finding the breakthrough after an impressive run, slotting the ball into the far corner of the net to take the lead for the visitors.

Again, Weston continued to play good football but found it tough to break through the back line of Paulton.

However, with 25 minutes to go, one of the Weston substitute’s fired a wonder goal into the net from 30 yards to make the scores level.

The Paulton defence looked very tired after defending very well with a lot of pressure for the majority of the game and gaps started to appear.

It wasn’t long till the home side took advantage of this and within 10 minutes they scored another 3 goals to take the lead and seal the victory.

A shame for the visiting team who had competed very well for 70 minutes.

The game finished 6-3 with Weston being the deserved winners in the end.

A great game of football to watch and we would like to wish Weston all the best for the season ahead.
