Paulton Rovers Ladies Reserves edged out Cheddar Ladies with a late strike from debutant Mel Newbery.
The hosts started brightly and their well traveled striker caused problems throughout the game with the young Paulton defence needing to stay alert at all times. Tianna Allen & Evie Thatcher impressed throughout with some great defending against a lively Cheddar forward line. However after weathering the early pressure Paulton started to create their own chances and it wasn't long before Molly Haskins opened the scoring with a well taken goal. Cheddar struck back just before the interval to go in level.
The second half saw Paulton enjoy larger periods of possession and the larger number of chances. Haskins struck again on the hourmark to retake the lead before Cheddar again hit-back with an unfortunate equaliser eventually coming off the boot of Baber.
With ten minutes remaining Newbery managed to get ahead of the defender and toe poke the ball past the on rushing keeper to score what proved to be the winner. Chances still came and went for both sides as the visitors held on for a morale boosting win in their first outing.
