Rovers delighted a good crowd and played through some tricky wet conditions to produce a solid display against Bristol City's talented Under 23 side at Winterfield Road. In the early exchanges, City had the better of the chances but Rovers also went close from a free-kick.
The opening goal came in the 23rd minute when 'Trialist A' picked up a loose ball and powered into the box, slotting home calmly past the keeper. City replied almost immediately in the 25th minute, with a very similarly taken goal. The rest of the first half played out with both teams struggling to create good movement in the slippery conditions.
The second half began with the rain still hampering the play. City went ahead in the 54th minute when the ball broke to the right hand side of the area and the City striker took his chance.
It seemed to be the spark that picked the game up with Rovers in particular starting to put some good moves together. Just seven minutes later, the hosts won a free kick on the left. David O'Hare swung in a cross to the far post which Neil Martin headed back across the goal. A City defender attempted a clearance that fell to 'Trialist A' who slammed the ball into the back of the net.
Joe Morgan went close for Rovers as they continued to press for a third. It came in the 76th minute when 'Trialist A' fed 'Trialist B' on the edge of box and his snap shot was only parried by the keeper. Leo Eglin was fastest to respond and was able to tap into the gaping goal.
City responded with a couple of half chances as they upped their pressure towards the end of the game, but Rovers held firm to take the victory.
Rovers penultimate friendly will be at Mangotsfield FC on Tuesday 25th of July (7.30pm K/O - preview here) with the final friendly taking place at Winterfield Road against Corsham Town on Saturday 29th July, 3.00pm K/O.
