Rovers’ stuttering pre-season continued with defeat at Western League Division One side, Almondsbury, on Monday evening.

The result didn’t tell the whole story of the game though as, after the hosts missed and early chance that was easier to score than miss, Rovers took control of the half and really should have been out of sight by halftime. But they weren’t and were punished late in the half when a long ball over the top caught out the defence with the Almondsbury forward left to round the keeper and slot into the open net.

The second was a more level affair but somewhat lacking in chances at either end. The inevitable substitutions didn’t really bring any more improvement from the visitors and the game petered out.

Rovers will need to improve their finishing for the next pre-season fixture on Friday.
