Rovers take a point in stalemate

Report by Jon Green

On a chilly Tuesday evening, Nailsea & Tickenham played out a competitive but goalless draw in a game that had very few chances for either team.

Much like Saturday's game at Ivybridge, the opening moments were tentative with the players feeling their way on the heavy pitch. The first chance fell for Rovers in the fifth minute when the ball fell to Jack Farion on the edge of the box but his well struck shot was straight down the throat of Jakob Glover in the host's goal.

N&T responded soon after in what probably turned out to be their best chance of the game. A snap shot beat Dan Jackson but clipped the crossbar and away to safety.

The visitors could only really muster two more chances in the first half with Will Hailston having a flicked header saved and in the 33rd minute, Dan McBeam was set free down the left and having outpaced the defence he dragged his shot wide of the far post.

Supporters of both teams would have been hoping for more goalmouth action in the second half but unfortunately they didn't really get it. Rovers first chance of the second half came in the 64th minute when substitute Kye Simpson chased down the keeper who had the ball outside of his area, he won the ball and with an open goal to shoot into, Simpson was retackled by the keeper at the last moment preventing the shot.

Rovers best chance of the game came in the 71st minute when Josh Ford headed the ball on from a corner and Jack Farion attempted an overhead kick inside the six yard box but the box rebounded off the post and was cleared away.

All the time, N&T laboured themselves to create chances but the Rovers defence were able to handle most of the moves and Dan Jackson was not seriously tested at any point.

On the surface many Rovers supporters would have been disappointed with the result having not won away from home again. However, in the cold light of day taking a point away from a ground with a heavy pitch against a tough team and not conceding should be seen as a good result.
