Rovers keep unbeaten run going

Report by Jon Green

Paulton picked up another valuable point and extended their unbeaten league run to six games after a scoreless draw with Worcester Raiders.

With the visitors starting the day in eighth position in the table, this was going to be a tough game to get anything from and Worcester started to show their class from the start. They moved the ball quickly and neatly, always having options for the man on the ball.

Their first chance came in the 5th minute with a shot that went high and wide. A header from a cross on the right that also went high came moments later.

Rovers struggled to maintain possession of the ball and laboured to get any momentum going forward. Worcester weren’t exactly dominating possession but were doing more with it when they had it.

However, Rovers were defending stoutly and restricted Worcester to long range efforts in the main with Archie Matthews only really tested once.

The first half hadn’t been a great spectacle but as time ticked on in the second half, Rovers began to grow into the game.

They started to get forward more and in the 58th minute, won a freekick in a dangerous position. Although nothing came of it, Rovers were nearly ahead moments later when debutant, Tyller Davis-Whitlock burst down the right and sent in a great cross that was met by Brandon Bak. His header crashed against the crossbar and was the closest either team had got to scoring.

Both teams began to look for a winner and with Rovers frustrating Worcester, they could even grab the winner the winner themselves as they found more confidence.

Davis-Whitlock went close himself in the 84th minute when he weaved around in the box before making some space to shoot. His shot though brushed the post and into the side netting.

Another late chance for Brandon Bak that was blocked when it seemed destined to go in was the last of the big chances and the game finished scoreless.

Worcester certainly had the majority of the possession and a greater number of chances but arguably it was Rovers that came closest to scoring. All in all, another valuable point was gained against a good side.

On his debut, Tyller Davis-Whitlock was voted Man of the Match.
