Paulton Rovers 2 v 1 Clevedon Town

Paulton welcomed high flying Clevedon Town to Winterfield Road on Thursday 6th February for a 7:30pm KO.

Paulton started the brighter of the 2 teams getting success down the right with George Stevens putting some excellent crosses into the box, unfortunately to no avail.

The deadlock was broken after 30 minutes when a quick throwing found its way to Louie Bowen inside the box. A well executed finish into the far corner put the visitors 1-0 up.

Clevedon grew in confidence and dominated the game for the remainder of the half, fortunately for the home team they didn’t create any clear cut chances and the score remained 1–0 at the break.

After the break, Paulton came back out to the pitch fighting to get back into it and the game became more open with both teams having some promising attacks. However, rigid defending from both teams stopped any threat of further goals.

The game became a scrappy affair with neither team putting many good hires of play together and it looked as if it was destined to finish 1-0.

With 5 minutes left on the clock, Paulton changed shape and pushed on to try and get something from the game.

In the 88th minute, Paulton found themselves with a corner which was taken short then fired low across the near post where it was met by Rohan Blunt who back heeled the ball into the net to put the scores level.

In the final moments of the game, Louis Simmons intercepted the ball on the edge of the Clevedon box and he made no mistake in curling the ball into the far corner of the goal to give the home side all 3 points with the last kick of the game!

A dramatic ending to a scrappy affair. It has to be said that both teams never really reached their usual performance levels. Many blaming the heavy pitch for the lack of quality on display.
